Michael Eisner, Keynote

Owner, Vuguru, a multimedia production studio
Michael D. Eisner joined The Walt Disney Company as Chairman and CEO in 1984. In twenty-one years at its helm, he revitalized and reinvented Disney into a full spectrum entertainment enterprise. Under his leadership, the company began implementation of a continuing series of creative growth strategies that resulted in its annual revenues rising from $1.7 billion to more than $30 billion. Michael Eisner continues to be an Entertainment Innovator. His investment company Tornante launched Vuguru, a studio producing original programming for the Internet, portable media devices and cell phones.
During his stewardship, Disney animation experienced
a renaissance with hits including:
- The Little Mermaid
- Beauty and the Beast
- The Lion King
- Toy Story
- Finding Nemo
- The Incredibles
Disney also became a leader in live-action films with pictures such as:

During Eisner's stewardship Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disney Sea and Hong Kong Disneyland were opened; also the existing Disney theme parks were expanded. First class hotels were opened that were designed by the world’s leading architects at all Disney resort sites
Disney also acquired Capital Cities/ABC which included the ABC television network, ESPN cable networks and equity ownership in The History Channel, Lifetime, A&E and E!, The SoapNET and Toon Disney cable networks. Radio Disney and ESPN Radio were launched and Disney also developed such leading Internet sites as Disney.com, ESPN.com, ABC.com and Family.com
Mr. Eisner has been a leader in the entertainment industry for nearly forty years helping to shape this key area of the American economy.

Previously, Brian ran the Web Platform and Tools Product Management team focused on delivering and marketing Microsoft’s server side Web solutions. Brian graduated with degrees in Computer Science and Economics from Duke University.

Max Wyss
"Guru of PDF scripting"

Max Wyss is the Principal of PRODOK Engineering, a consulting company based in the Zürich area in Switzerland. He is a well known figure in the Acrobat/PDF and Forms community, where he is known as the “guru of PDF scripting”. His custom-built JavaScript applications based on the AcroForms technology have been known to draw gasps even from Adobe engineers. Besides his consulting work for numerous clients, he speaks frequently at conferences, and conducts highly regarded intensive workshops in Switzerland, Germany, and the United States.
With a Master’s degree in engineering (dipl. Ing. ETH) from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, he brings a solid understanding of the underlying technical issues to PRODOK’s many technology-oriented clients.

Christopher Smith

Christopher co-founded Aquent Graphics Institute (previously American Graphics Institute) in 1994 after leaving Quark, Inc. Christopher recognized that publishers, designers, and communications professionals needed assistance in adopting and adapting to rapidly changing technology. He quickly grew AGI to become the leading technology training and consulting resource for nearly every major advertising, media, publishing, and marketing firm in North America. In 2007 AGI became part of the Aquent, a $400 million business with 70 offices across 17 countries that represents 400,000 creative, marketing, and communications professionals.
Christopher is widely considered one of the foremost industry experts regarding electronic publishing software. He has authored or co-authored more than one dozen books relating to electronic publishing technology, including the Adobe Creative Suite for Dummies. Adobe Systems has entrusted him and the team at AGI with managing all content, creative, and production for the vast majority of the Adobe Classroom in a Book series published by Adobe Press. Smith has overseen development for multiple versions of the Classroom in a Book titles for InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, GoLive, Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements, and Audition. For the Adobe Creative Suite 3 products, Christopher and the AGI team have developed the new Digital Classroom series published with O’Reilly which includes books and training videos on the CS3 versions of Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, InDesign, and Illustrator.
Outside of AGI, he has served as an elected member of a School Board where he had oversight of a $50 million annual budget in an enterprise with more than 900 employees and he currently serves on the board of directors of a private co-educational school in suburban Boston.

For the past 16 years, pdfPictures has been producing award-winning DVDs, TV series, music videos, records, commercial and educational CD-ROMs, Internet web sites and, most recently, Interactive “Rich Media” PDF documents. The company features a team of highly skilled, multitasking professionals consisting of musicians, graphic artists, writers, on-air talent, still photographers, video camera operators, editors, computer programmers, and support staff, who try to push the boundaries of what can be done using “Rich Media” PDF as an Internet delivery platform.
Their clients include: General Motors, Ford, Mazda, Jaguar, Nissan, Toyota, Dell Computer, Apple Computer, Benjamin Moore, Pfizer-Parke Davis, Trinidad, Aruba Tourism Authority, Ontario Ministry of Tourism, VIA Rail, Bell Canada, and many tourist boards from around the world.
The company is led by Bob Connolly, an accomplished musician, writer, record, television, and movie producer with a vast rich experience in the print publishing industry. His knowledge of advanced PDF workflows originated while under contract to produce training videos for the Linotype Company. He has received several research grants from the Government of Canada to develop Interactive TV via PDF.

Throughout his career, Miller successfully supported a diverse body of customers that included city, county, state, and federal agencies; the United States Air Force; commercial printers and service bureaus; commercial photo labs; and Fortune 50 to 500 companies.
Most recently, Miller served as Vice President Sales, North America, for Matan Digital Printers. Prior to his tenure with Matan, Miller was Digital Imaging Sales Representative for Canon Business Solutions. He has also served as District Sales Manager for Ilford Imaging Inc. Miller began his imaging career as a photographer’s assistant and lab technician at Palmer’s Photography Studio in Dallas, Oregon.

John Landis

John Landis taught in the Communication Design Department for thirty-three years. Prior to his teaching appointment, John was Art Director of a Wilmington, Delaware, design office with clients E. I. DuPont deNemours, Armstrong World Industries, Atlantic Aviation, and others.
During his teaching career, he freelance designed for various clients including designing six cookbooks for health and ecology publisher Rodale, Inc., Emmaus, Pennsylvania; a major corporate identity project for the international offices of the United Methodist Churches, New York City; numerous compact disc packages for the Vantage Recording Company, Alexandria, Virginia; and printed materials for various non- profit organizations.
At Kutztown University he began the Communication Design Internship program; founded, edited, and designed the alumni newsletter; and founded and regularly taught the Campus Graphics course during which seniors respond to actual on- campus client requests for posters, brochures, and other printed communications. He has had his design work accepted in numerous exhibitions and annual publications and has received recognition for teaching quality both locally as well as on the state and national level.

Before joining Aquent, Chris served in senior consulting roles for three leading-edge technology firms: EDS, Oracle, and IBM. During his sixteen-year career, Chris has led engagements with more than 25 Fortune 500 companies. His views on marketing, technology, and organizational change have been presented at industry conferences including Comdex, HOW, and American Management Association events, as well as in publications including Network World magazine and USA Today.

Jeremy Osborn has more than 15 years of experience in web and graphic design, filmmaking, writing and publication development for both print and digital media. Jeremy recently served as the program director of Graphic & Web Design at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. At CDIA he developed and taught the design curriculum which has become known for it’s emphasis on real world training for print design and an emphasis on web standards for web design.
Jeremy has contributed to several of the Adobe Classroom in a Book series including Adobe Acrobat 6 & 7 Professional, Adobe InDesign CS & CS2, Adobe GoLive CS2, and was the co author for Adobe Audition and the author of Adobe Premiere Elements. At AGI, Jeremy has provided in-depth training and custom consulting for students and corporate clients. Jeremy holds a MS in Management from the Marlboro College Graduate Center and a BFA in Film/TV from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.

Cathy Palmer has worked as an award-winning designer and production coordinator at advertising agencies and creative firms in Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago for over twenty years. She is based in the Midwest and available nationally for graphic design, print production, workflow & conversion consulting, and training.
Cathy offers solutions to improve productivity and efficiency in page production and digital integration of content. Her training uses real-world projects as examples; her consulting is structured to produce immediate benefits with existing documents and applications through workflow and process changes while providing cost/benefit analysis of file conversion and software migration.
As co-author of “A Designer’s Guide to InDesign and XML” from Adobe Press, Cathy is very interested in data-driven publishing and automated layouts, to make print production easier while freeing up more creative time for design.
Cathy currently works with Aquent Graphics Institute as a graphics software instructor on both Mac and PC platforms, in lecture/classroom and hands-on workshop settings. She also provides targeted technical consulting on digital design and print production topics.

Eric Rowse

Eric works with AGI clients to implement PDF solutions to streamline workflows and capture efficiencies of electronic document distribution. He has led the conversion and training process of large business organizations as they deploy Acrobat across their enterprise, delivering training to hundreds of Acrobat users.
Educated as a designer, Eric received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, and continues to work with graphic design and multimedia applications. When not teaching at AGI’s New York City facility, Eric can frequently be found on the Long Island Expressway or the New Jersey Turnpike—look for the man on the motorcycle with a laptop slung over his shoulder.

Chad Chelius

Chad has a formal education in publishing technology, and has the trial-by-fire production experience that makes him a valuable contributor to every project on which he works. He’s served as the lead consultant for major InDesign migrations and Digital Asset Management implementations for clients such as Rodale Press (publishers of Prevention Magazine, Runner’s World, and multiple other magazine titles), and the publishing group of the National Geographic Society. He’s skilled in all aspects of print production, working with automation and XML. Chad holds professional certifications from both Adobe and Apple, which he uses in his role as a consultant and instructor for Aquent Graphics Institute.

Since joining Extensis, Ms.Valladares has led the research, market analysis and positioning for Universal Type Server, the newest addition to the Extensis font management product line.

Jerron Smith

A multi-faceted artist and video producer, Jerron works in multiple media. He has experience in both digital video and television production, and post-production work. Jerron is as an adjunct instructor in the Communication Arts department at the New York Institute of Technology, where he instructs courses in computer graphics methodology and technique. He is also a member in good standing with both ACMSiggraph and the Computer Graphics Society He is a contributing author to the upcoming Flash Digital Classroom, and Photoshop CS3 Digital Classroom books published by O’Reilly and AGI. Jerron completed his undergraduate work at New York’s esteemed Fashion Institute of Technology and The City University of New York, and then completed his Master’s studies in Communications Arts at the New York Institute of Technology. He also serves as an instructor for Aquent Graphics Institute.

Robert Underwood

Robert has nearly 10 years of print production experience on top of his formal education in the graphic arts. He worked in production and later as Systems Administrator for Media News, publisher of multiple weekly newspapers in suburban Boston, prior to becoming a consultant and instructor for Aquent Graphics Institute. An Adobe Certified Expert for InDesign, he is an expert in multiple editorial workflow systems involving InCopy and InDesign, including K4, and Woodwing’s Smart Connection. Robert spends his spare time tinkering with multiple Apple laptop computers.

Mark Walter has more than 20 years of experience working with publishers and service providers to implement digital technologies that improve their productivity and profitability. He is currently Director of Business Development for Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), where he has been leading the company’s expansion into custom publishing solutions based on Adobe InDesign Server. Prior to joining MEI, Walter most recently served as a Seybold consultant, analyst and senior editor of The Seybold Report, where he covered a broad spectrum of digital publishing and printing technologies and applications.
